Import Process

This guide explains what happens during the import process and how to monitor progress.

Starting the Import

After selecting your pages, click Start Import to begin.

What Happens

  1. Connection established - Secure link to salon.io data
  2. Page processing begins - Pages import one by one
  3. Images transfer - Media copies to New Salon storage
  4. Layout conversion - Layouts mapped to new system
  5. Verification - Content integrity checks

Progress Display

Overall Progress

The main progress bar shows:

Page-by-Page Status

Each page shows its status:

Detailed Progress

Click on any page to see:

  • Current operation (copying images, converting layout, etc.)
  • Image transfer progress
  • Any warnings or notes

What Gets Imported

Per-Page Import Steps

For each page, the system:

  1. Reads page data - Title, URL, settings
  2. Copies images - Downloads from salon.io CDN, uploads to New Salon
  3. Transfers text - All text content with formatting
  4. Maps layout - Converts to new layout engine
  5. Positions assets - Applies coordinates and sizing
  6. Applies styling - Colors, fonts, custom CSS
  7. Creates page - Saves in your New Salon account

Image Processing

Images are:

  • Downloaded at full resolution
  • Uploaded to New Salon's storage (Supabase)
  • Optimized for delivery
  • Available via CDN

Original images remain on salon.io.

During Import

Stay on the Page

For best results:

  • Keep the browser tab open
  • Don't navigate away
  • Avoid refreshing

The import continues even if you close the tab, but you won't see progress.

Time Expectations

Import speed depends on:

Background Processing

The import uses streaming technology:

  • Pages import in parallel where possible
  • Progress updates in real-time
  • System handles interruptions gracefully

Handling Issues

Warnings

Yellow warnings indicate minor issues:

  • Image not found - Original may be deleted
  • Custom HTML preserved - Review after import
  • Font substituted - Similar font used

These don't stop the import. Review warnings after completion.

Errors

Red errors indicate problems:

  • Page failed - Click to retry that page
  • Image failed - Image couldn't be transferred
  • Timeout - Connection issue (retried automatically)

Retry Options

If a page fails:

  1. Click the Retry button next to the failed page
  2. Or continue and retry all failed pages at the end
  3. Failed images can be manually uploaded later

Progress Notifications

Browser Notifications

If enabled, you'll receive:

  • Started - Import has begun
  • Progress - Milestone updates (25%, 50%, 75%)
  • Complete - All pages finished
  • Errors - If issues occur

Email Notification

For large imports (20+ pages):

  • Optional email when complete
  • Summary of imported content
  • List of any issues

Completion

Import Complete Screen

When finished, you'll see:

  • ✅ Success count - Pages imported successfully
  • ⚠️ Warning count - Pages needing review
  • ❌ Error count - Failed pages (if any)

Summary Details

  • Total pages imported
  • Total images transferred
  • Time taken
  • Any actions needed

After Import

Immediate Next Steps

  1. Click View Imported Pages to see your content
  2. Or click Import More to add additional pages

What to Check

  • Page layouts and positioning
  • Image quality and placement
  • Text formatting
  • Links (internal and external)

Importing More Pages

Additional Imports

You can run migration again to:

  • Import pages you skipped
  • Add newly created salon.io pages
  • Retry failed pages

Duplicate Handling

The system prevents duplicates:

  • Previously imported pages are marked
  • Selecting them again shows a warning
  • You can choose to skip or re-import

Troubleshooting

Import Stuck

If progress stops:

  1. Wait 2-3 minutes (large images take time)
  2. Check your internet connection
  3. Refresh the page (progress resumes)
  4. Contact support if stuck over 10 minutes

Very Slow Import

For slow imports:

  1. Check internet speed
  2. Large images take longer
  3. Try importing fewer pages at once
  4. Off-peak hours may be faster

Browser Crashed

If your browser crashes:

  1. Re-open the migration page
  2. Check for completed imports in your dashboard
  3. Resume or restart as needed
  4. Completed pages aren't lost
